University of Tennessee’s Interdisciplinary Antimicrobial Research Group

The UT One Health Initiative is pleased to host an interdisciplinary working group dedicated to addressing one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time: antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

This group brings together experts working across various fields and is composed of faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, community members, and industry professionals who all share the common goal of combating AMR through innovative and collaborative efforts. With such a wealth of knowledge under one umbrella, the working group can approach AMR from multiple angles:

  • Microbiology & Biochemistry: Understanding the molecular mechanics behind resistance development.
  • Clinical Practices: Investigating how medical procedures affect resistance spread.
  • Environmental Impact: Examining how agricultural practices and waste management contribute to resistance in natural ecosystems.
  • Pharmacology & Drug Development: Pioneering new antibiotics and alternative therapies.
  • Policy & Education: Formulating recommendations for policy improvements and public awareness campaigns.

We believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of staying informed about the broader community. Below you’ll find links to leaders in the field of AMR research.
